Imperial Assault, and some quick "Opening the Box" pics

 
Hi there! I got myself an early birth day present :) I've been drooling for the Imperial Assault board game from the day it got released, and now I finally got it... with a salty price of 110€ (AAAaaargh! Thanks for the expencive SW-lisence fee George... or is it Walt nowadays).
In comparison, Descent 2nd edition starter box was 80€, and it shoud be basically the same game with a different theme... But was this worth my savings? Lets see what's in the box...

Ok. Here's four rule booklets, and some advertising stuff...

Seven sheets of floor tiles and markers, and the small sheet looks like some kind of stickers...

 And they're double sided of course. Art looks really high quality. Me like...

Next we have some hero cards and tons of other smaller cards, as can be expected from Fantasy Flight. There's Deployment Cards, Story Mission Cards, Side Mission Cards, Agenda Cards, Reference Cards, Hero Class Cards, Imperial Cards, Item Cards, Supply Cards, Reward Cards, Command Cards, Condition Cards... ... ... "Piii... pii... Uiiii... R2-D2 do not compute". I get back with some details later. Dice look familiar if you've played any Descent games.

And finally some miniatures. Including "bonus" Luke Skywalker and Darth Warder figure packs!

All the minis are really nicely sculpted, and the plastic seems quality stuff too! So I think I'm happy with my investment so far... Now I'm gonna do some reading, and I'll be back with some details of the game rules and those cards and tokens. Bye now!

Some Purchases and Arachnarok WIP

We've been playing some Pathfinder 2nd edition with my son, and now he wanted some more dungeons to delve into... This seems like a great expansion so far. Still some rules to study.

The Edge of the Empire, and other purchases

Hi there! Just a quick posting here about the latest purchases in the hobby field...

I went to the local game shop to buy some comics... Hellboy and Savage Sword of Conan Vol.1 and stuff... But I left the shop with this in my bag, and forgot to buy the comics...

It´s a quite new release from Fantasy Flight Games. A beginners role playing box... with quite nice contents, and I think a promising taste for oncoming 448 pages "Core Book". So I had to have this with a nice price of 30€...

There are some nice booklets inside, covering the basic rules and a starting adventure. I just got a glance of them, so I can´t give any opinions about them  yet. Well... the art is brilliant, and the game core rules seems to be quite simple to learn...  And that´s just what I like to have in my games. Simple rules behind a good adventure. Also I´d like to have some board game like action in the game... so I´d get my hundreds of Star Wars minis in some use... And this looks promising :)

Some tokens and weird dice... not surprising from FFG.

Some "ready to play" characters for the starting adventure. With a fast reading, they seemed Ok... They even had a really good Star Wars-like background stories, that weren´t too tacky... in a Star Wars universe way :)

And on the other side there´s the map of Mos Shuuta, and some significant locations. The adventure seems to be mostly about escaping Tatooine, and running from Huttese crime lords mercenaries and bounty hunters... Perfect stuff for my games.

Finally got this baby... And it seems great! The book is pretty good hard cover quality, and the Dark Angels seems to be  quite balanced army again... Just the "Death Wing assault" Deep Strike rule with addition of "Vengeful Strike" (All ranged weapons as having Twin-linked special rule until the end of the turn) seems quite heavy shit for the opponents. But they deserve it, right?

And I finally got my Vikings from the Gripping Beast... They are amazing, as you can see from the link... for I havent got any pics from the inside yet :) Great details, skillful and inventive sculpting. I will use them as Orlanthi and Humakti in my Rune Quest campaign. Thats all for now. Bye!

Dark Vengeance, Limited Edition and other stuff...

Just got my own copy this morning... and had to put few pics here. I bought it with my  friend, who got the Chaos bitz, markers and templates, so I dont have the pics of the Chaos Marine minis. I got the Angels and rulebook... and stuff.

The minis are just fantastic. The posings, details and overall 40k coolness with bikes and all...almost puts tears in my hobby veteran eyes :) Good job!

Minis are plenty I think... and I feel I got my moneys worth.

Here´s the Dark Vengeance introduction book... six missions introducing the new rules, plus fluff and stuff :). And assembly manual for the new minis.

The small rulebook and some reference booklets... and rules for Chaplain Seraphicus! Small rulebook is also in full color, for my surprise... Looks really cool. Still I´m thinking I should get the "big daddy" book at some poit, when I got 60€ to spend.

With "other stuff" in the header, I ment these blisters I ordered from Micro Art Studio, and got them today. Really good looking sculpting with low price :) These skull bases are going for Descent and RPG use.

These are for 40K use... Some Ruins Bike Bases (for my new Dark Vengeance bikers) and Crusader Legs for older Terminators.

Here´s some "Spooky Bases", also for Descent and RPG use. Now I just need some painting time... and ofcourse some gaming time to test the new 40K rules with cool new minis.

Trolltrader Goodies

I ordered some stuff from Trolltrader last friday, and now theyre here! Nice delivery time... I´m happy!

Twenty flyer bases... Mostly for Epic 40 000 and I´m planning to make an asteroid field for Star Wars campaign in far future :) Coffins from Malifaux will make great rubble scenery for Descent and for RPG use. Maxmini Iron Pattern Jump Packs for my Vanguard Marines. They have been out of stock for a long time now... finally I got them. From Gamezone Miniatures I got Goblin Shaman Wolf Rider. It will give some boost for my small Night Gobbo Wolf Rider unit.  That´s all now... Bye!

Purchase of the week: Pathfinder

Hi there! I wandered to the local gaming shop yesterday to kill some time... (didn´t plan to spend any money) Going through a vast amount of board games and RPG´s I got a cool looking box in my hand. Brilliantly painted art cover: In a middle of ancient ruins, there´s a dragon on a pile of gold and magical treasures, few heroes desperately trying to slay it with spells and blades, hopeing to collect the loot... Not very original in the field of fantasy RPG covers...

 No, it wasn´t this Larry Elmores classic cover of the game that got me started in the hobby :) But I really got my nostalgic gear going on when I looked at this box...

Pathfinder... Ok, I´ve heard of this... It´s that most playtested and praised RPG in the world with old D&D system. Well nowadays, being almost forty, I like darker and more complicated games, not some juvenile dungeon bashing action, with healing potions and trap doors, in search of treasures and fame... Errr... wait a minute. I´ve been hosting some Descent sessions for almost a year now, and we´ve had some great times with that door breaking, head bashing, loot collecting, dungeon action board game. So, could this be a logical step thinking about life after Descent..? I dunno, but I grabbed my wallet, and payed the price...

After reading the rule books for a while, I got a smile in my face (in a good way), for they really got me back in the good old  D&D days...and I was very pleased about the high quality stuff found inside. This is from Paizo´s site... what´s inside. (Old news for most of you out there...:))

I´m not gonna give my review of the game here, for there´s hundreads of them in the internet. This was just me reasoning for myself, why I spent some money again on the gameing hobby... And why I´m gonna spend some more for the 576 pages Core Rule Book, 328 pages Bestiary, The Inner Sea World Guide, Game Mastery Guide, Advanced Players Guide, Bestiary 2, Bestiary 3... Ultimate Combat... ... ... Wife took my wallet... Bye now!

More Dragon Princes

I picked up the old school Dragon Princes "regiment boxes" today. Cheers! Just a minor set back though... The old boxes only contains three Princes, not five as I presumed :( But I found four blisters from the "collectors bag", so I gathered a group of ten Princes after all :) Two of the blisters are actually "Dragon Prince Heroes"... so they look a bit different than a common Prince.
And again, the price was next to nothing... Of this all in the picture, I payed twenty euros :o

The new Warhammer minis are a bit bigger in size than the oldies. And they have better poses, to make them even taller. So I had to put one of the Old ones together and compare the size issue...

And the winner is... well... I found out that the riders are actually the same size, but the difference in height is big between the mounts. What do they feed to the horses nowadays? Can they be used together in the same unit? Does the size matter after all? ... Big questions...

Well... I will use the same color theme in the Oldies, red, gold and white. So maybe I can use the new edition Princes as unit champions or something. (champs are bigger and rides a bigger horse too... Right???)
