Just a quick update. Not much painty time lately... but just enough to add some green to the Dragon Prince.
Inspired by the cover of 1993 Dragon Prince box, I decided to paint the tip of the lance with a color theme instead of using metal tone. In the box cover they are painted with red, but I decided to go with green here... Not using metal color takes away some "realism" of the mini (if there is such a thing in a fantasy world), but it adds a punch of old school feeling to it :) And that's what I'm after here... Bye now!

Nice! The old scheme in red and green was much much better... And you did a great work.
ReplyDeleteThat is so very first half of the 90s style. You don't see that much these days. I think your version of it looks really nice /Hans
ReplyDeleteThanks guys! I'm glad you like it :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, colors are really impressive...
ReplyDeleteThanks Phil! I Appreciate it :)
DeleteThis is absolutely beautiful. I have to ask, how did you do the gold scales? They looking stunning?
ReplyDeleteThanks Daniel! If I remember correctly, I started with a base color of Iyanden Darksun then good layer of Burnished Gold. I washed the gold with Sepia (maybe twice)... Then did the high lights with gold again, leaving the previous layer show abit. Finally added some Silver to the Gold and made the final bright spots. Hope that helps :)
DeleteThanks for that, it should help enormously, as I have been struggling to get a good procedure for painting gold :) I had never thought to use a base of yellow, so that is very interesting.
