Descent Miniatures: Merriod, and a Watery Base

Another Descent miniature painted. I'm thinking painting my second Merriod with purple theme...  Hopefully soon. Here's some pics.

The "coming out of water" base was fun to paint. I'm glad I gave it a try...

Yet... I'm not painting the "watery base" for the other Merriod. Takes too freaking long :) Bye now!

Descent Miniatures: Merriod WIP

Hi there! Here's something I'm working on at the moment. I got inspiration to get back with my Descent minis, as I purchased the "Shadow of Nerekhall" expansion for my Descent 2nd edition. So I got lots of new monster and hero minis, and of course, loads of props and dungeon floortiles...

I like this mini... Shark with tentacles, and can walk on ground too. Hooray high fantasy :) I think this is gonna be used in Pathfinder too. Jumping up from a underground lake...

Descent Miniatures: Dragon Done

I did'nt do any paintjob on the Dragon since the last posting, but I painted the base. I used the same method as with my older Descent miniatures. Here's some pics of the base!

The blue stuff is supposed to be acid dripping from Dragons mouth... I could have used more time with that effect, but hey... I got another thing coming :) Bye now!

Descent Miniatures: Dragon WIP

Here's few pics of the "Descent 2nd Edition" Dragon, that I've been working on...

It looks nice from a distance... Next I'm gonna put on some glaces and work on the base with some bitz. Bye now!

Descent: Miniatures, Props and Action

Hi there! We had a Descent session while ago. I even managed to paint few new minis and props before the game, for the last Rumour Dungeon level (Down in a Hole). Here's some pics...

Here's Golem, Ferrox and a "master" Ferrox with red base. They were all needed in last lvl of Dungeon...

Golem painted up real nice... I had to hurry little bit too much with the Ferrox. Not happy with them :(

Here's Chest and Treasure set I ordered from Dark Art Studios... Great stuff for board- or RPG gaming!

I quickly painted up just the amount I needed for next session... With a base they're easier to handle :)

Here's some older action pictures...

Should we search those tiles marked with question marks..?

Our heroes (and one substitute) thinking their brains off... wipeout is coming :) (Overlord is not in the pic)

Ancient Library filled with sharp shooting, upgraded Skeletons... They're really hard for heroes to handle!

Pics form the latest session...

Down in a Hole... What's behind door number two..?

Loads of traps and Monsters tipped the scale for the Overlord in the end... Though the Heroes managed to save the peasant from the Evil Sorcerer and complete the quest, the Overlord still got most of the Conquest Tokens from this dungeon. None of the heroes squished under the rolling boulder (disappointment)...

It was fun to play again... But the last lvl took us nine hours to complete..! So we finished the game at two in the mornig. Nine hours a bit too much I think. Next time we have to use a time limit for the players and overlords turns, to prevent this kind of  "Über-playing", and maybe drink few beers less... Wife says that the beer might be the real reason  for the game flow slowing down after eleven o'clock :D (I Don't agree)

Descent Props: Bone Heap

Hello! Got little something done again... This time for Descent board game. Actually these fine pieces are Micro Art Studio Skulls Bases, 25x25mm. There are five of them in a blister, and I ordered quite many, for RPG and Descent use.

These are small things in the game, but I really believe they bring some extra tone in the gaming experience...

Original FFG Bone Heap props are just great, but even so, there´s just big difference in 2D...

And 3D. Next thing for Descent is going to be Money and Chest markers, that I ordered from Dark Art Studios... as soon as they arrive and get painted :) Bye now!

Ral Partha 1984

Hello! Just a quick update here... I painted another nostalgia mini today. It´s a really old Ral Partha Knight. I dont know it´s "True Name", for I didn´t find it in Ral Partha catalogue. I´m gonna use it with my Descent miniatures, as Sir Meric Farrow :) Here´s the pics.

I painted the robes to match with Descent Sorcerers... So maybe the mini fits better in the game :)
All the "Liutenant Encounters" are out door fights, so I didn´t bother to paint the dungeon floor tiles on this one... And it´s more practical in other (RPG) use... Bye Now!

Descent Miniatures: Troll

Hi there! Got the first of three Descent Trolls done... I chose a strange and slow painting tech for the Troll skin... but I think it turned out to be Ok. I didn´t really think about how I´d paint it... just kind of went with the feeling.

The sculpting on the Descent Trolls is really good. All the details paints up nicely... Me likes!

The posing really has te feeling that "It´s coming at you". And the nasty smile on Trolls face even makes it more horrendous.

Here´s the troll from different angle to show the freehand on the base... It took about the same amount of time to paint as the Troll itself :) But it´s the basing method I chose in the beginning with my Descent miniatures, and I´m sticking with it... Crap..! :(

Descent Miniatures: Dark Priest

Hello! Finally got these done. We have a Road to Legend session next friday, so that was kind of a source of inspiration to dig the priest´s up from box, and give them the final paint job and basing...
You can see the first steps of painting from my earlier Descent postings.

I wanted some plague, rotten feeling in them, so I just added some quick washes with green and red. Simple but effective.

Same from behind... Now they´re ready for some board game action..! We´ll see if I can find time to finish some more minis for Friday :) Bye now!

Descent Miniatures, Nanok of the Blade

Hi there! Just finished up Nanok of the Blade. It painted up lot easier than Vyrah the Falconer, I can tell :) I think this one had the best sculpting quality so far in my painted Descent miniatures. Here´s some pics...

That battle axe looks really nasty...

Now my son has both of his Heroes painted :) Bye now!

Descent Miniatures, Vyrah the Falconer

We have played Descent with my seven year old son for few times now. It´s amazing how fast he can learn the rules and the game terms, even without him knowing any English. I don´t use the full rules, but in every new session I will add some of the rules to our game. He has seen the Campaign games with our Descent Group, so he knows there´s a lot more in to the game... and he keeps askin more stuff every time we play. But I try to keep it simple, and add new things slowly. Today he corrected me two times with the hero skills and dice rolling... for I counted some results wrong :) Oops!

Vyrah the Falconer is one of the Heroes he likes to play with (the other being Nanok of the Blade). So today I decided to paint it up. Sculpting of the mini is really good job, but some of the details are so microscopic, that you just have to dig them up, like a archeologist...

So, occasionally the mini was quite painfull to paint. But in the end, it was rewarding to get it finally done. And I think the result is allrighty, for one evenings job anyway...  I was supposed to paint the mini completely as it appears in the Hero Card (as I´ve done with the previous hero minis), but I had to make some changes this time with the color tones and choices, for my taste the original picture was too much "carneval stuff" with all bright yellow, red and green. :(

I´ve already started with Nanok of the Blade, so I´ll be back soon with that... Bye now!

Descent: RTL Campaign Report

Our Road to Legend Campaign is getting close to silver level now... Previous "rumour quest" was at Guardian Hills, where heroes slayed down the ghost of Captain Jones and his minions (X-Marks the spot).

After a long and hard battle they received gold and experience of course, but also "The Backbiter" long bow, that seems to be a dangerous weapon in hands of agile Grey Ker.

While training and well earned R&R in Vynelvale, Spirit Speaker Mok (one of the heroes) wandered to the local tavern, and payed for a round of drinks... and learned a new rumour, as a young woman walked over to his table. He asked somebody to help and rescue her husband from a evil sorcerer who´s tower´s located in the Gardens of Tarn. Heroes desided to help the poor lady, and started their journey towards a new adventure.

Meanwhile... Gates of the Witch Kings keep opened at Blackthorn Grove, and Liutenant Meric Farrow rode out like a bat out of hell with his minions. He travelled fast, over the Mountains of Despair, while his brother Sir Alric Farrow besieged the city of Dawnsmoor (for a while now), trying to raze it (he just can´t pull it off :).  Meric catched up with the heroes at Riverwatch.

Merics intention was to follow the group and "fortify" the next dungeon the heroes would explore, (Giving the Overlord extra 15 threat points in Merics case) so he didn´t attack. But the over devoted heroes drew their swords and axes, and charged... And the battle went on for the rest of the game night. Mok was the first hero down, pierced by the accurate skeleton arrows. And for there´s no spawning back to the board in Liutenant encouters, heroes now started to drop down one by one. Meric was badly wounded by the group, and Steelhorns (one of the heroes) came very close to axe him down... but the evil minions were too many. Steelhorns made an outstanding fight using his "Cleave" skill, cutting down over a dozen enemies. But he finally ran out of fatigue points, and was pierced by too many arrows... So, the next sessions begins in Tamalir, where the "Obelisk of Journeys" has transported the fallen heroes. To be continued...
